Bob the Tomato is one of the main characters of VeggieTales, VeggieTales In The House/City, The VeggieTales Show and the recently released YouTube series Veggietales Afterlife. He first appears in 1993's Where's God When I'm S-Scared when he teaches Junior Asparagus alongside his best cucumber friend Larry the Cucumber that god is the biggest of them all, even the boogieman. In Veggietales Afterlife, he first appears in the episode "Tough Luck" when Larry was so excited about "Job Picking Day" which to Bob's dismay, didn't wanna go to but during the deleted scene portion of the episode, we could see Bob asking a random vegetable if they've seen Larry but much to Bob's surprise, they haven't. During Season 8 of Veggietales Afterlife, most notably during the episode "The Prophet of Two Tomatoes", Bob finally learns about his family tree {not counting the shorts} and sparks some character development.
Since Season 13 as well as The New Content Series, Bob has remained an important part in the show's history until Season 17's finale titled The Push-Back when Bob was pushed aside for a new character named "Boofy the Orange" in which caused Bob's jealousy to spark but Bob remained a supporting character of the series until Season 19's finale titled The End of Boofy! when Bob accidentally pushes him into a Garbage Chute putting him off the air for good.
Bob originally wanted to create Veggietales Afterlife due to the success of the original series.
He is voiced by American actor, Edward Norton in The Very Veggie VeggieTales Movie and its 2014 sequel.
Character History:[]
Bob first appeared in a 1992 screen test for VeggieTales called Take 38, where he attempted to do an inspirational Martin Luther King Jr. type speech to promote the idea of the new series to the viewer. Despite some silly interruptions from Larry the Cucumber, Bob was able to successfully get through his speech. Bob later appeared in the 1992 short film The Princess and the Prophet Pea where he plays the role of a storyteller, telling the story from the Pea's perspective.
Shortly after the commercial success of The Princess and the Prophet Pea, Phil Vischer started development on the main show titled VeggieTales where Bob would host the show alongside his best cucumber friend Larry.
In 1993, Bob officially became the host of VeggieTales alongside his best friend, Larry. Since then, Bob has gone on to star in nearly every episode of the series.
ob often takes on the role of storyteller and narrator, but has played a variety of roles and characters over the years. Some of his most memorable roles include Rack from Rack, Shack and Benny, The Skipper in Larry's Lagoon, Dr. Watson in Sheerluck Holmes and the Golden Ruler, ThingamaBob in The League of Incredible Vegetables, Tomato Sawyer in Big River Rescue, and Cavis Appythart in both The Star of Christmas and An Easter Carol.
Recently in 2009, the VeggieTales character models have officially been edited by the YouTuber VeggieTales Afterlife Offical! for his now popular YouTube fan-series Veggietales Afterlife which would release a year later on November 11th, 2010.
